Location

The Burj Al Arab is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, it is 321m (1,050 ft) making it the second tallest building in the world used as a hotel. The hotel stands on an artificial island which is 280 m (920 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and it is connected to the mainland by a private bridge. It is Dubai’s most recognizable landmark, which is well served by taxis, and its own fleet of chauffeur driven Rolls-Royces, several BMWs, and a private helicopter.

Construction

The construction of the Burj Al Arab began in 1994. It was built to resemble a sailing boat called a Dhow, a type of Arabian Vessel. Two “wings” spread in a V to form a vast “mast” shape, while the space between them is enclosed in a massive atrium.

The architect who created the Burj Al Arab was Tom Wright, and he said that “the client wanted a building that would become and iconic or symbolic statement for Dubai, it needed to be a building that would become synonymous with the name of the country.
